There are three variants:

  • You are self-paying and fully cover the costs of the treatment yourself.

  • You are self-paying, but have taken out additional insurance , which will subsequently reimburse you for part or all of the costs.

  • The basic insurance of your health insurance covers the costs (minus deductible and deductible within the scope of your chosen tariff ("Franchise" and "Selbstbehalt").

What do I have to consider in order for my health insurance company's basic insurance to cover the costs of the treatment?

NEW FROM JULY/22

In order for your health insurance company’s basic insurance to cover the costs of psychotherapeutic treatment, you need an order for psychotherapy (PDF / Word) from a doctor.

Physicians providing primary care and psychiatric and psychosomatic care have such authority to issue orders, ie

  • Specialists in psychiatry, psychotherapy and/or psychosomatics

  • general practitioners ("Hausarzt")

Crisis interventions or brief therapies for patients with serious illnesses can also be carried out by persons with a specialist title in all medical disciplines,  be arranged once for a maximum of 10 sessions.

How many sessions are allowed if my basic insurance covers the costs?

Your general practitioner/ family doctor ("Hausarzt") is authorized to issue a maximum of 2 medical orders.

15 sessions of psychological psychotherapy are possible per medical prescription, ie  2 x 15 = 30 sessions in total.

A specialist in psychiatry, psychotherapy or psychosomatics can also order 2 x 15 = 30 sessions. In addition, he can also issue further orders, ie 30 sessions or more, if necessary.

If you suffer from a somatic illness that causes you mental suffering, your treating specialist of any specialty (e.g. specialist in gastroenterology, pneumology, nephrology, etc.) can also order a maximum of 10 sessions . If these 10 sessions are not sufficient, the family doctor can extend this to a total of 30 sessions, or possibly further sessions after assessment by a specialist in psychiatry, psychosomatics or psychotherapy.

What happens if the therapy lasts longer than 30 sessions via basic insurance?

Before psychotherapy can be continued after 30 sessions, a cost approval from the insurer is required.

A specialist in psychiatry, psychosomatics or psychotherapy (hereinafter referred to as 'psychiatrist') will also assess whether it is necessary to continue the therapy after 30 sessions. You should therefore make an appointment with a psychiatrist in good time before the end of the 30 sessions. (In exceptional cases, an assessment can also be made  take place in the form of a file assessment.)

If your psychiatrist has already prescribed the first 30 sessions, they can also apply for the continuation of the therapy.

If the first 30 sessions were ordered by your family doctor, they will also submit the application for continuation and attach the assessment by a psychiatrist to his application.

What are the costs?

Of course you are also free to bear the costs of your treatment yourself and to make use of my support regardless of medical diagnoses and institutions.

Costs on request.
